Inspired I see the beauty

of this crystalline blueness, the hoary

pentangles of ice halting beneath the air

I want to love this lunar-like landscape –

to embrace its idolized stillness

but I cannot

too many sunflower fields still roam within

too many seagulls swoop and craze my inner shore

too few daisy moments mowed by the seasonal turn

of this earth’s cruel northern orbit

remind me of that golden happiness of light-born days

of calm exhalations on a summer night.
