Inspired Deliverance

The ancient wheelbarrow leans

against a corrugated fence

the light upon its arms, an M

with shadows black and dense

The burnt-sienna underbelly is

proudly pockmarked, rough and ready

its wide-rimmed wheel’s starry spokes

and rounded sideways V legs, steady

This crusty chariot was never

pulled by princely white steeds

pushed, it was, by leathered hands

work horses of wondrous deeds

It hauled a ton of matter and stuff

to beautify, border, or build

to rid, repair, or rectify

by toilers diversely skilled

Through decades and generations

it delivered the means to an end

and gave the children raucous rides

to all, a trusty treasured friend

It earned its rust and surely, rest

its dirt lanes and lineage, long

eternal sleep is miles away

its body and soul still strong
